When I was five I found a tiny mouse. The adults went mad, but why? Later, on sharing a bedsitter with a mouse - I understood.
I did art training many years ago. I hope one day to illustrate my rhymes and stories.
The Conjuror's Mouse
The Conjuror's Mouse leapt onto the table,
wiggled its tail and waved at Aunt Mabel.
Aunt Mabel paled and started to scream
as the cheeky white mouse turned purple and green.
"That's all for now," it said with a bow,
darting behind the screen.
The conjuror's mouse came back one day,
when Jack and I stayed in to play.
"Dad has a hat that's shiny and black.
Let's try some conjuring tricks!" cried Jack.
The mouse took a look, and hopped on the brim.
It did a wild dance and then it fell in.
We thought that was that and poked in the hat,
when out it leapt with a fiendish grin.
"BOO!" it squeaked, and waved at Aunt Mabel
who shot in the air and up on the table.
"KILL IT!" she screamed in a terrible flap.
"I WILL!" shouted Dad. "I'm buying A TRAP!"
"Make it a treat made of syrup and wheat.
It's bound to like that, it's so sickly and sweet,"
cried Aunt Mabel.
Dad bought a trap with a great big flap,
in fact it was large as a stable.
And Mum made a treat that was sickly and sweet.
"It's that mouse or me!" cried Aunt Mabel.
I loved our mouse, and I started to cry
as the treat rolled into the stable.
How could I watch our poor mouse die?
"It's that mouse or me!" cried Aunt Mabel.
We all crept away. How could we stay?
Well, all except for Aunt Mabel.
"I'll see that mouse dead if I wait all day!"
cried she from up on the table.
We crept away but heard a snuffle,
an angry scream and a frightful scuffle.
We tore downstairs, and peered in the stable.
No little mouse, but there STOOD AUNT MABEL!
She screamed "It's here! It's over there!
CATCH IT QUICK! IT'S IN MY HAIR!"
We stared and stared as it flew through the air,
"BOOOOOOOOO!" it squeaked at Aunt Mabel.
